What does direct, guaranteed advertising mean?

There are many different ways to buy advertising these days, but there are really only two big buckets of inventory types. One is guaranteed (also known as direct, reserved, Class 1 and Tier 1 inventory) and the other is non-guaranteed (also known as remnant, Class 2 and Tier 2 inventory). All of the inventory that is offered through the BuyAds marketplace is guaranteed, meaning that an advertiser and publisher are both guaranteeing the campaign that’s bought for a specific price is going to run a guaranteed number of impressions for a set amount of time.
