CPM stands for cost per mille (and mille is Latin for 'thousand'), which means that you sell your ads on a per thousand ad impressions basis - say, for instance, a $5 CPM. So when an advertiser buys your ads they would select how many impressions they would like to buy at your CPM rate and they would schedule the campaign to run on the days they want.
